Our final day of travel took us to the enchanting Principality of Monaco, the second smallest sovereign state in the world. Despite its size, Monaco is filled with charm, luxury, and history.
How to Spend a Day in Monaco
We began our adventure with a mid-morning train ride to Monte Carlo. The train was crowded and hot, but the anticipation of exploring this iconic destination kept our spirits high. Our first stop was lunch at the famous Café de Paris, located right next to the legendary Monte Carlo Casino. Surrounded by opulence, we enjoyed our meal while soaking in the glamorous atmosphere.
After lunch, we couldn’t resist a peek inside the Monte Carlo Casino. The grand architecture and lavish interiors were captivating, even if gambling wasn’t on our itinerary. Following this, we strolled through the shopping district, indulging in a bit of window shopping—because, let’s face it, budget travel and Monaco’s luxury boutiques don’t mix!
Next, we tackled a hilly hike up to the Prince’s Palace, which turned out to be my favorite palace in Europe so far. The audio tour was exceptional, offering fascinating insights into Monaco’s royal family, including the beloved Princess Grace Kelly. The palace’s art and book collections added a rich layer of history to the experience.
Nearby, we visited the Cathédrale de Monaco, where Princess Grace and Prince Rainier III are laid to rest. Although we couldn’t enter, the cathedral’s striking exterior was a highlight of our day.
As we made our way back to the train station, the scenic views were unforgettable. From luxury yachts to the twists and turns of the Monaco Grand Prix route, every corner offered something new to admire.
We ended the day in Nice, savoring our final dinner—pasta, of course!—before heading home, full of memories of a magical day in Monaco.
